![]() OFFICIAL RULESFOTOWEEK DC YOUTH PHOTO CONTEST 2009SPONSORSFotoWeek DC and The Washington Post TERMThe FotoWeek DC Youth Photo Contest 2009 begins July 7 2009 at 12.00pm EDT and ends September 27, 2009 at 11:59pm. WHO MAY ENTERContest is FREE and open to all students enrolled in public and/or private schools between (5) five and 18 years of age, and in grade school, through high school as of September 27, 2009, and legal residents of the District of Columbia (Washington, DC) and the states of Maryland and Virginia. All photographic work submitted must be created by the student, and permission by parent or legal guardian must be granted prior to entering contest. HOW TO ENTERVisit www.fotoweekdc.org/youth and follow the steps to submit your photographs. You may digitally submit up to (3) three pictures in the contest. Before you submit your work, you must check with your parent or legal guardian and obtain their permission to enter the contest. CATEGORIES Photographic work is divided into three (3) grade categories: Photographs of any subject may be submitted. Within your grade (see above), select one of the following (6) categories where your work best belongs: 1. People: Portraits, candids, family, friends, etc. JUDGING & FINALISTSThe judges (listed on www.fotoweekdc.org after July 24) will choose 1st and 2nd prize winners for each of the six (6) categories in each of the three (3) age brackets for a total of 36 finalists. From this total of 18 1st prize winners, the judges will choose a “Best in Show” grand prize winner. Winners will be announced and/or posted online or by mail by October 19, 2009. Winning images will be posted in a gallery on www.washingtonpost.com. Decisions of the Sponsor and Judges are final and binding. Sponsor reserves the right not to award all prizes in the event that there is an insufficient number of eligible entries meeting the minimum judging criteria. CONTEST PRIZESAll 36 finalists will receive publication on The Washington Post website and their winning entries will be framed and exhibited during FotoWeek DC 2009 (November 7-14, 2009). Prizes include: - $200 cash prize for first place winners for each category within each age bracket. (18) RELEASESPrior to submitting photographs, you are responsible for obtaining permission of your subjects if your work contains any material or elements that are not owned by you. FotoWeek DC and The Washington Post reserve the right to use the images submitted in promotional materials in conjunction with FotoWeek DC in 2009 and beyond. Photographer retains all rights of ownership of photographs submitted. PARENTS/LEGAL GUARDIANSIf your child is a potential winner, you will be required to verify the eligibility of the work submitted, confirm permission for the email address used to upload the work, and authorize release of the work submitted to be used for promotional purposes by FotoWeek DC and The Washington Post. LIMITATION OF LIABILITYBy participating, entrants (and their parents or legal guardians) agree to release, discharge and hold harmless FotoWeek DC, and its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this contest or any contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder. Sponsors are not responsible for any computer-related, online, or technical malfunctions that may occur. Entries are void if they are incomplete, counterfeit, produced in error, or obtained through fraud or theft. By entering the contest, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules. CONDITIONSThis Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Entries are void if the Sponsor determines the entries are not original, illegible, incomplete, damaged, counterfeit, produced in error or obtained through fraud or theft. Participants also agree (a) to be bound by these Official Rules; (b) that the decisions of the Judges are final on all matters relating to the Contest; and (c) if he/she wins, that Sponsor may use the winner’s name, photograph, likeness in any publicity or advertising relating to the Contest or future promotions without compensation or approval (except where prohibited by law). All federal, state and local taxes, fees and surcharges on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winners. In the event that the selected winner(s) of any prize are/is ineligible or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may choose whether to award the prize to another winner.
